And I Ran . . .

I ran so far away. What? Is that song not stuck in your head now, too?

My job here is done.

Not really.

Yesterday I decided to go for a run. No, zombies weren't chasing me. No, the neighbor's house wasn't on fire. No, I haven't actually lost my mind . . .

Yet.

But the sun sat low on the horizon, the sky still a pale shade of blue. Birds flew from tree to tree, singing while hunting bugs—

Sick of all that yet?

I thought so.

http://www.beachbody.com/product/fitness_programs/p90x2-workout-the-next-p90x.do Anyway, back in February, the hubster must have pushed his iPad in my face every day, showing me pictures of P90X2 and all those assholes who say they’ve had three kids—or more—and look like . . . well, they look downright amazing.

After a few weeks of this, I caved. "Buy the damn thing."

We're not getting any younger. We're not getting any skinnier, especially when I plop my flat (yes, I said flat) ass down on the couch every night to write books you people like to read. (I love you.)

And I'm so glad I said yes (especially to marrying him—he's awesome) and we decided to make these changes in our lives. Sure, we work out five days a week. My knees hurt. My elbows hurt. My body aches. But at the same time, I feel stronger, alive, more alert, healthier, proud of what I see in the mirror—on most days.

To top it all off, I'm trying things I haven't done in years . . . like running. I used to love it, but I told myself I couldn't move that fast anymore. My body couldn't handle it.

Pfft. I'm 32 years old. I'm not giving up on life. I'm not caving and sitting on my ass the rest of my life. I'm not old. I hope I never grow "old".

So let this be a message to you: GET OFF YOUR ASS AND ENJOY LIFE.

Now.

Because tomorrow, it could all be over.

I just got done exercising. Not as intense as P90x, but baby steps :P. I'll walk later today too. I'd run, but it would exacerbate my back problems. Plus I despise it :D.

Glad you like p90x though! I keep thinking about jumping on the band wagon, but frankly it looks a bit too intense for me. Pretty sure I'd die of an asthma attack :P

    1. Yay for walking. I LOVE walking. And I thought this program would kill me, too, but so far I'm still alive. So far.

  2. Krystal, I started running about a month ago, and I've never ran in my life. My goal is to run my first 5K in November, and I'm getting ready to turn 50. I'm amazed at how easy it has been for me to work up to my running goals in a short time, and yes, it hurts, but I'm not taking 50 lying down. I think the P90x is pretty intense, and in reality, everyone should find something that pushes them but doesn't kill them. At my age, running 3 times a week is perfect for me.

    1. That's awesome. My SIL is trying to convince me to run races with her. I'm not sure I'm ready for that. I'm not a big fan of exercising where people can see me. :-)

The program I'm doing is definitely not the end all - be all, but I've loved it. The thought of the intense workouts really scared me, but I love a challenge.

Glad to hear you're moving with me though!

  3. My goals this year are to cut out/down on the soda - need the caffeine boost sometimes and I despise iced tea, and don't drink coffee. But, in cutting out the intense amounts of sugar I should start doing better on my weight issues. Also, I walk on a daily basis because I lack a car!

My other goal is stop eating as much fast food...but as I work fast food I need to start altering my choices to healthier options on our menu when I go to work. :D

    1. Cutting down on soda is so difficult. I used to drink 3-4 a day, but I've gotten down to 1. I think that's good. I love iced tea, especially green iced tea. I also love coffee. :-) Coffee is the only thing with sugar in it that I drink.

You MUST cut out fast food. This is HUGE. My family is constantly on the go, and I noticed there for a while fast food turned into the trend. I felt TERRIBLE while eating this way. We've since bought a Ninja cooking system and we make a lot of the fast/simple recipes out of this book. We plan our weekly meals out in advance. We know which nights will be long and busy (like tonight is soccer night), so we pick meals that don't take more than 20 or 30 minutes to prepare. We buy fresh. We don't freeze. This is all new, and I feel great just from eating better.

  4. I think you should sign up for a 5K the same day as your SIL's 1/2 marathon. Think of it as a way to support her. Plus, how cool is this race title, "Semper Fred?"

Awesome! After completing the P90x I still couldn't run because the arches in my feet would kill me after a tour around the block. I got new shoes and tried again. Worse. I knew this was a sign that I should probably get an experts help with the whole arch support thing since that is where the pain is, I just haven't had the follow through. So many things, so little time.
