But has she put her trust in the wrong place?

CHARMING, I'm Sure

Wow. I haven't written a blog for a while.

I'm sorry.

Honestly, I've been writing up a storm, but it's all taken place in the background, and I haven't found much time to break away to chat over here. It's difficult for writers to blog all the time, write books, edit books, market books--whatever. I didn't come here to complain.

What I came here for was to tell you that I JUST FINISHED WRITING ANOTHER BOOK! Woot. It's called CHARMING, if you couldn't tell by the ridiculously, and quickly, made logo at the top of this post. Yes, I made the logo. No, I didn't take much time or put a lot of thought into it. But when I said CHARMING, I didn't want you to think sunshine and roses. I wanted you to think BLOOD.

Because I am crazy!

You all knew that, however.

Now that I've finished this edge-of-your-seat, coming-of-age thriller (yep, THRILLER!), I realize I should probably write a synopsis, maybe a back of the book blurb, possibly even put some information about the book on this website. And I will, eventually. My agent is foaming at the mouth to get CHARMING in her hands, and I promised to email it by the 20th of this month, so I know I need to hurry.

But yet another story is knocking on my brain, begging me to write it. So, I guess I'll have to keep two notebooks handy: one for story-building, and the other for dreaming up the horrid synopsis.

And for those of you keeping tabs, SHATTERED SECRETS has been revamped and given a whole new vibe. I'm hoping to have that one on shelves for you soon!

In the meantime, if you all wouldn't mind throwing out some female and male character names for me, that would be great (this would be for the new story coming to my mind). The female lead is HORRIBLE, probably more like a villain than a good girl, teenager, has no friends, thinks of herself as invisible. There are two guys: one's an all-around good guy, football player, popular; the other guy is a football player but not popular and a lot darker in terms of his attitude, but he is a good guy.

So . . . names! Toss 'em at me!

POP TRAVEL #newrelease #books

It's great to be visiting Krystal! Thanks for having me! Krystal gave me a great question to ponder for this post "What part of me is in my main character?" I love it!

When I named the MC of Pop Travel, it had to involve my three sons - J.L. Cooper (Jace, Logan, & Cooper!) They are my boys! Love them to pieces! Even when they're at each other's throats. It's all good! The MC, Cooper is also a pilot, like my dad, is from Michigan, like my hub, and lives near Atlanta, my favorite city.

As for character traits, his sarcastic, dry humor is all me. Though I love to help and encourage others, I'm also a doubter. Don't want to be taken for a fool. I'm suspicious of every strange phone number that pops up on my caller ID. I also like to do things my way and be in charge. All of the above qualities make me a great teacher - ha! And make Cooper a perfect private eye. But Cooper has lots of qualities I don't have, as well. He has guts, for one, and other guy traits, like not wanting to talk about his feelings, inconsiderate sometimes, you know how guys are! ha!

Well, that's J.L. Cooper. He's fun to write, but his supporting characters are hilarious. I'm having a ball editing the next one, Simulation!

Thanks so much for this opportunity, Krystal! I really enjoyed thinking about this question!

Pop Travel by Tara Tyler
A tale of deception and teleportation.

When a distraught client enters J.L. Cooper's small town detective agency ranting about a pop travel teleportation cover up, Cooper takes the case. He blames pop travel indirectly for his wife's death and would love to expose a glitch in it.

But the glitch turns out to be disintegrating travelers. And now, his client is dead, his secretary is missing, and a hitman is stalking him. Plus there's all the webcams watching his every move. So, Cooper has to find a way to expose the deadly flaw, while using pop travel to escape the maniacs covering it up, not to mention save a couple of tag-alongs he's not sure he can trust. No problem.

Colour Wielders by Dawna Raver

Since I'm a total slacker and can only focus on revisions and writing (YAY), I'm going to let Dawna say whatever she wants here. :-)

                                     ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I'm happy to announce that Colour Wielders is back on the market with a pretty new face and updated content. It thrills me to be able to share it with you today. Thank you Jade Hart at Black Firefly for all her work, Michelle Johnson for my amazing cover, and Danielle Blanchard for all your hard work and help. If you have time, please stop by Facebook tonight and party with us at 4:00 central https://www.facebook.com/events/314183782060128 hosted by the wonderful Leslie Whitaker.
Behind the Faerying Mysts, hidden from Mortal eyes, is a land where gods and creatures of myth and legend dwell. And in the Mortal Realm, their Princess is hidden away. Quinn Sinclair lives an ordinary life with her less-than-loving mother in Conifer, Colorado, clueless of her true nature. On the night of her birthday, a staggering betrayal sends her life spinning out-of-control. As she struggles to pick up the pieces, a vision of a man with haunting tourmaline-blue eyes begs her for help, and she is transported into a Magykal battle-forever changing her life.
Arik Morgaine—Demigod bad boy and outcast of the Magykal Realm—tried to avoid contact with Princess Quinn for eighteen years, not wanting to make good on an old threat. But the fates have other plans. Arik can no longer deny his growing desire for Quinn, or the need to protect her from those wanting to control her burgeoning powers. Can the two of them come together and save the Magykal Realm from being destroyed by the Darkest of Magyks?
  New Adult. Recommended for 18 and above. Mature themes, sexual situations, and profanity.
Author Appreciation Day #huganauthor
Susie Levine is hosting a great blog hop to celebrate authors! Why? Well, she realizes how important reviews are to authors. How without the ratings, without the few sentences from a happy reader, that it makes it harder for a new reader to come along and snatch up the book. Really! How many times have you seen a book on Amazon and not purchased it because it didn't have enough reviews?
Below, you'll find a link back to her original post and the sign-up code.
Make sure you write a review for a book you've read, loved, and never mentioned to your friends or family or Goodreads. Post it on your blog. On Amazon. On Shelfari. Wherever you like to rant and rave.
Authors are sometimes insecure and need of a pick-me-up. So hug them!
Colour Wielders #newrelease
The time has FINALLY come for my good friend and critique partner Dawna Raver's book to come out. I've seen so many different versions of this story that I'm going to have to read the whole book again before I can review it, and that's just fine with me because ARIK is HOT!
Sorry, girls, he's mine!
Anyway, you've all seen the cover, right? Well, now you've seen it again. You can buy this baby on Amazon, Barnes and Noble, iTunes, Kobo, and I'm pretty sure there are other places as well. Dawna was kind enough to sit down with Arik (yumm) and interview him for this blog, so I'll let you start reading that now!
Dawna Raver: Hi Arik. Long time no see.
(I say this trying to keep my tongue from lolling out of my mouth. The man is hot in his tight, black T-shirt and jeans. The energy radiating from him comes to me in colorful hues. It makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end.)
Arik Morgaine: I've been busy. Very busy.
Dawna Raver: I'm sure. I appreciate you taking time to speak with me.
Arik Morgaine: Hmph.
(He rolls his tourmaline-blue eyes, exasperated, but I can't help but swoon.)
Dawna Raver: So, you said you've been busy. What's going on?
Arik Morgaine: Things you couldn't possible grasp, being Mortal and all.
(He says the word Mortal with a sneer as he leans forward, staring me down. His Irish/Swedish accent sends shivers across my skin.)
Dawna Raver: Hmm. Well, Mortal or not, how about you enlighten me anyway.
(I stare right back at him. Gorgeous Demigod or not, I refuse to be intimated.)
Arik Morgaine: (He sighs.) Things are going down. Unexpected things. Things that shouldn't be happening.
Dawna Raver: Oh you mean like the Changeling coming back?
(Arik stiffens at the mention of the Changeling.)
Arik Morgaine: How do you know about that?
Dawna Raver: (I smile.) I have my ways.
(Considering me, he rubs his chin with hand, and one, long finger brushes over the sexy cleft in his chin.)
Arik Morgaine: The Establishment, I expect.
Dawna Raver: No, not the Establishment. But I did speak with King Finn Bheara the other day. He sends
his love.
Arik Morgaine: Ha! I'm sure. There's no love lost there. I refuse to bow to him and his two cronies until
they come clean. Admit to what's going on under their noses.
Dawna Raver: One of those cronies is your father, Týr, the infamous War God?
Arik Morgaine: Yeah. And your point?
Dawna Raver: No point. So, have you heard from your mother, Mor—?
(He stands abruptly, and scowls down at me.)
Arik Morgaine: Do. Not. Say. Her. Name.
(I hold up my hands and look around nervously. Arik sits back down.)
Dawna Raver: Oh, okay. Um, are you afraid she might hear us?
Arik Morgaine: No. I'd just like to go a day without being reminded of who my mother is. Thankfully, I
favor my father.
Dawna Raver: Well, except for your widow's peak.
(He runs his hand through his hair, and grimaces.)
Arik Morgaine: Yeah. Are we about done here? I have places to be, things to do.
Dawna Raver: Sure. Just one more question. Have you heard anything about the Princess? Checked up on
her? I hear your old friend Devin MacGregor is staying at her house.
Arik Morgaine: She is less than nothing to me, and he more so. This interview is over.
(He growls and waves his hand, disappearing from sight. I suck in a surprised breath.)
Dawna Raver: Was it something I said? Darn. I wanted to ask him about his Colours. Well, maybe next
time.
I pull out a bottle of tequila and pour myself a shot. I'd hoped to do one with Arik, but he was kind of grumpy. Seriously, he has a lot on his plate to deal with. His mother alone is scary enough. No wonder he's grumpy. Oh, and don't ask me to name her. Because she might be listening, and I don't want to incur her wrath.
I take the shot then go in search of Quinn Sinclair. Hopefully, she's in a much better mood.
Krystal: Well, that ended rather abruptly. We'll have to try catching up with Arik again soon . . . maybe in the book!
Dawna has a great giveaway going on, so make sure you check out the Rafflecopter below.
Dreamscape Cover Reveal!
When Christie Rich told me she was looking for help with her cover reveal tour, I jumped at the chance. LOOK AT THAT COVER!
Very pretty, and makes me want to know what the heck she has in her hand. Right?
Check out the blurb:
Every night before Amelia falls asleep she makes a wish to dream of him – the man who calls her to their beautiful private oasis, her sanctuary where she is free of her greedy landlord’s threats. But tonight, he will not call Amelia to him. Tonight, another man will step into her world to claim her. Tonight, Amelia’s shattering reality will crumble - and disappear into the Dreamscape…along with her freedom.
When Amelia dreams tonight, her nightmare becomes her new world where Seth is her captor and anything is possible…except escape. Seth needs Amelia to break the curse that binds him to the Dreamscape. He must convince her that she was made to free him, that she was made to join him.
For if he fails, he will never escape his prison, and he will lose Earth to the Netherworld where the evil Erobos wait to consume the human realm and everything in it. If he fails, Seth will lose the one thing that matters to him: Amelia.
Doesn't that sound AWESOME?!
I grew up daydreaming about fairytales, and my love for discovering new worlds has never died. I am not one of those writers who always knew I would write. I thought that was what other people did until one day a few years ago, I took a challenge from a friend and typed my first words. My journey has been wonderful, and I cannot imagine a day where I would ever give up writing. My love for reading is what fueled my imagination in the first place and still does. When I am not writing or reading, I am enjoying family time with my husband and two children. I also dabble in painting but writing has taken over my creative time right now.  I hope to get back to it at some point in my life, but I'm not sure when I'll have time for it.  My family and I live in a quiet community  in Northern Utah, and I am so thankful for the rich life I have been blessed with.
The Charge #newrelease
Well, it's time for another promotional post for a dear friend of mine. Sharon Bayliss and I met through Curiosity Quills Press. She submitted her novel to us, and I had the pleasure of reading it. Now, she's published.
All thanks to mwah.
Okay, some of that might have to do with her talent. But only some of it!
I asked Sharon the same thing I ask every author: What Part of You is in Your Main Character. Here's her response!
Krystal Wade asked me to write about what parts of me are in my main character. I found this especially fun to ponder since my main character from The Charge happens to be an 18-year-old male. So, we're not exactly twins. But since his entire self comes from my own imagination, we must have some things in common. And of course, we do. Here is my list, in no particular order.
He's laid back.
There are some things in life that I take very seriously, but when it comes to the details of day-to-day life, I'm laid back to a fault. It drives my somewhat neurotic mother crazy. She usually calls or emails me more than once a day worrying about some random thing, and my answer is invariably some version of, "I'm sure it will all work itself out."
I wait until the last minute. I never know what time it is. I never know where my keys are.
Warren has a similar carefree attitude. He'd rather just go with the flow, but sadly for him, he doesn't have that choice.
He has a sense of humor (and he's a bit of a smart ass).
Warren and I have a similar sense of humor, which is fairly obvious if you think about it. I mean, I write all of his jokes. :) We like to poke gentle fun of others and ourselves. And we're not afraid to say whatever smart-ass remark comes to mind, even in less than appropriate situations. Fortunately for me, I've grown out of this a little bit, but alas Warren is still eighteen.
Warren and I both enjoy comedy in all forms. When he's stressed out and his world is falling apart, he turns on The Simpsons. That's me all the way. When I'm upset, my mind candy is the sitcom.
He really loves his little brother, who might be an evil genius.
My younger brother has been my best friend for a long time. And that's right, brother, I called you an evil genius. You know it's true! At least you're brilliant and beat to your own drummer. Probably not evil. :)
And I would go take on a King to save you if need be! :)
We're not interested in money or things.
Well, not that interested. I do like money and things, but both of us came from families that don't consider wealth to be very important. Like most people, Warren does have some fantasies about how nice it would be live in the lap of luxury in a palace. He could stop delivering pizzas and waiting tables. But riches really don't provide much a temptation to Warren. Nice to have, but not worth giving up his principles. And he's not ashamed that he grew up in a family where his mom had to work hard for everything they had, in fact, he's proud of it.
Warren and I also both love micro-brewed beer, food (just in general), and think a good cup of coffee can improve almost any situation. :)
Personally, I love writing in the mind of someone who's not exactly like me. I write better when I'm stepping out of myself, but nothing makes a character more real than tapping into your own self.
Thank you for the fun prompt, Krystal! And thanks for having me here.
~And thank you, Sharon, for stopping by. Make sure you check out her book!
The Never #newrelease
I love the writing world. I meet so many amazing people and love being able to share in their successes! Today I'm hosting Kristina Circelli whose book, The Never, just released. Take a look and hurry up and buy this thing!
“Out of nothing, we create something.”
Arianna has spent her entire life being called a dreamer, an artist who created a world no one else can see. And for her entire life, she has taken the medication that keeps that world – and the one who brought her there – at bay.
Now an adult, Arianna reawakens that part of herself kept locked away in the darkest corners of her mind. When she hides her medicine from her fiancé’s ever-watchful eye, he returns – the shadow in the night who collects her for an adventure known only in her fantasies.
But something is different about this world called The Never. It is no longer the cheerful place filled with light and laughter that she knew as a child. Now, the sea creatures drag their visitors into the depths of murky waters. The natives battle to the death against the tribe of children. And the pirates, led by the feared captain called The Hunter, seek out Arianna for their own sinister plans.
As Arianna goes deeper into The Never, she discovers just what her connection to the land means – and must choose between her life rooted in reality, and the world where anything is possible.
18 Things #newrelease #ya #fantasy
Well, it's that time again. One of my favorite people's book releases today. I met Jamie Ayres last year during a contest I judged. By the end of her first chapter, I broke down into tears. Not many authors can claim they had ME crying that soon. Actually, I don't think any can--except Jamie. She captured the emotions of grief beautifully.
So of course Jamie won this contest--along with a few others--and she was offered a contract for publication. Honestly, I didn't think she was going to take it. When she did, I hemmed and hawed over whether I wanted to edit her work. I may have even assigned it to someone else and then stolen it back from that person.
Well, I should stop rambling and allow you to read what part of Jamie is in her main character Olga.
Take it away, Jamie!
What part of me is in Olga?
Hmm, this was a fun question for me and one that truthfully, I never really gave much thought!
Obviously, anyone who knows us would say we both drink an insane amount of coffee. The Keurig machine hubs bought me for Christmas may just be the death of me . . . which leads me to the fact that just like Olga, I don’t sleep much. On average, I’d say I get 4.5 hours a night. And nooo, I don’t take naps (I just make more coffee when I get home)!
On a more serious note, I’d also say love doesn’t come easy to us. I always had a steady stream of boyfriends from sixth grade on, always looking for what love really was and finding disappointment instead. On August 17, 1997, I finally met the man who showed me what love is . . . Jesus!
This is another way we’re alike. We’re Christians, and vulnerability, discipline (okay, not where the coffee is concerned . . . or the cupcakes) and peacemaking come with the territory. That doesn’t mean we’re overly religious, or that every doctrine mentioned in the book is true. That’s why 18 Things will be shelved in the fiction section! We’re not trying to preach to anybody, but we do hope the novel will inspire teens (and anyone else reading it) to live the life they were created for.
Lastly, to conclude my five paragraph essay (heeheehee—sorry, it’s the teacher in me), we’re geeks. I don’t know if I was necessarily a geek in high school, but my husband converted me. You can thank him for all the Star Wars references in my book.
About the Author: Jamie Ayres writes young adult paranormal love stories by night and teaches very young adults as a public school teacher by day. When not at home on her laptop or at school, she can often be found at a local book store grabbing random children and reading to them. So far, she has not been arrested for this. She lives in southwest Florida with her prince charming, two children (sometimes three based on how Mr. Ayres is acting), and a basset hound. She spent her youthful summers in Grand Haven, Michigan and this setting provided the inspiration for her debut novel, 18 Things. She really does have grandmothers named Olga and Gay but unlike her heroine, she's thankfully not named after either one of them. She loves lazy pajama days, the first page of a good book, stupid funny movies, and sharing stories with fantastic people like you. Visit her website at www.jamieayres.com.
January Black #fantasy #newrelease
I love when my friends release books! Helping with promotions is always so exciting! Wendy Russo and I met via Twitter? Facebook? Blogging? Six Sunday? I honestly don't remember. But we hit it off.
While she was reading Wilde's Fire, I was biting my nails waiting to hear what she thought. She liked it--good thing, too, because that would have been awkward--and now I can't wait to read and LOVE her book.
Let me tell you a bit about it! Or I'll let her.
Sixteen-year-old genius Matty Ducayn has never fit in on The Hill, an ordered place seriously lacking a sense of humor. After his school’s headmaster expels him for a small act of mischief, Matty’s future looks grim until King Hadrian comes to his rescue with a challenge: answer a question for a master’s diploma.
More than a second chance, this means freedom. Masters can choose where they work, a rarity among Regents, and the question is simple.
What was January Black?
It’s a ship. Everyone knows that. Hadrian rejects that answer, though, and Matty becomes compelled by curiosity and pride to solve the puzzle. When his search for an answer turns up long-buried state secrets, Matty’s journey becomes a collision course with a deadly royal decree. He's been set up to fail, which forces him to choose. Run for his life with the challenge lost...or call the king’s bluff.
Because Wendy is so awesome, she's even shared an excerpt with us today. Enjoy! (Keep your eyes open for a hidden link to a second excerpt. When you find it, the password is "matty".)
While walking south on Main Street, Matty and Iris traded shopping bags. She cocked her head sideways while looking at the cover of the book he bought her.
“Black Sheep,” she read aloud thoughtfully. “Alice Glass. Why do I know that name?”
“She wrote the novel that ‘Marker’ is based on,” he replied, referring to a SteerNet serial about to be cancelled in its first season.
“Ugh,” she said, dropping her hand. The book slapped her leg. “That show is horrible.”
“Agreed, but never mind that. ‘Black Sheep’ is by far her best work.”
“I’ll give it a try,” Iris said. “Take a look in yours.”
He pulled the small paperback out his. Peter Oldham was his mother’s favorite historical fiction author. Matty recognized “Drops in August” as soon as the corner of the cover cleared the paper sleeve. He bit his tongue to keep from groaning.
“Oh, God,” she said, likely in reaction to the cringe he failed to hold back. “Maybe this was a bad idea.”
Thinking of his mother, and her repeated suggestions that he read the book, Matty’s initial disappointment dissipated. “No, this is good,” he told Iris.
“That’s not what your face says.” She reached for the book.
“Oh, no!” He shook his head and moved his hand out of her reach. “This will do very nicely.”
“Nicely? For what?” She crossed in front of him and walked backward, reaching for the book as he whipped his hand up and behind his head.
“For a joke on my parents.”
She stopped cold in her tracks. He planted his feet so that he wouldn’t run into her, but his momentum carried him forward anyway. She put her hands forward to stop him from falling, but when he hit them, she lost her footing and stumbled backwards. He lunged forward and caught her in his arms.
When he regained his balance and stopped her fall, she was shocked, breathless, and completely supported in his arms at a sharp angle to the ground. People around them on the sidewalk applauded.
One man who passed them said, “Nice catch, kid!”
Matty stepped back and brought her to her feet. She seemed to be searching his eyes for something.
Finally, she asked, “Are you a brat, Matty?”
“Depends.” He felt as if he would shake apart if he let her go. “Do you like brats?” As her lips pulled into a smile from ear to ear, she touched her forehead to his collarbone. A few moments later, she looked back up at him and squirmed just slightly. He let her shrug him off, and when her arms were free, she slapped his cheek playfully before skipping south on the sidewalk. All of his internal organs melted into his legs. About ten steps later, she turned around.
“Are you coming?” she yelled.
Matty shook off his daze and ran to catch up with her.
~ I want to read the book. How about you?
Wendy S. Russo got her start writing in the sixth grade. That story involved a talisman with crystals that had to be found and assembled before bad things happened, and dialogue that read like classroom roll call. Since then, she’s majored in journalism (for one semester), published poetry, taken a course on short novels, and watched most everything ever filmed by Quentin Tarantino. A Wyoming native transplanted in Baton Rouge, Wendy works for Louisiana State University as an IT analyst. She’s a wife, a mom, a Tiger, a Who Dat, and she falls asleep on her couch at 8:30 on weeknights.
Give Thanks
I have a lot to be thankful for this year. 2012 has been a whirlwind of publishing books and taking on major roles within a publishing house and making friends.
It's also been a year that I've realized great things are within my reach, and trust me, I'm about to grab them!
So, with that, I'm here to THANK YOU. My family, my friends, my peers, my fans, everyone who reads my blogs or my books or helps spread the news I'm always blabbering about.
Without you and your help and support, I'd be nothing. It is through your faith in me that I can do the things I do, and it is through your smiling faces that I continually move forward.
I hope everyone in the U.S. has a wonderful and safe Thanksgiving, and to those who don't live here, I hope your Thursday and Friday and every day for the rest of your lives are filled with JOY!
Now that all the mushy gushy is out of the way, I need to let you in on a little secret. Curiosity Quills, my publisher, has decided to host a Black Friday Blowout! Every one of our titles is now just 99 cents! Can you believe that?
If you've been waiting to buy Wilde's Army and Meadow (Wilde's Fire was already 99 cents), you don't have to wait any longer.
But you have to HURRY! This 99 cent Blow Out lasts through Sunday, then the prices go up to $7 or $9 or something like that!
And, just so you know, if you purchase any of my titles, a portion of the proceeds will go to Hurricane Sandy relief funds.
What could be better than that?
Check out the Curiosity Quills catalogue and then head over to Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Kobo, iTunes, or wherever you buys books and grab your copy today.
