How to Make a Customer Angry!

So, I'm on vacation. Yep. The girl who never stops working decided to stop writing, stop editing, stop going to the day job, stop worrying about every little thing for TWO WEEKS.

I've been sitting out on my front porch, listening to the birds sing, watching lightning bugs blink all around the yard, enjoying the soft glow from the crescent moon, and sipping on my drink of choice: margarita.

It's a beautiful evening here in Virginia. I couldn't ask for anything better, right?

Well, I decided to crack open Divergent. I've heard so many good things about this book; I figured it was time to give it a chance. The first chapter was . . . okay. The second chapter was somewhat interesting, and just as I thought, "Oh, well maybe I'll keep reading this book" I turned the page and found THIS:

To say I'm furious would be a huge understatement. I mean, I paid money for this book. I have been looking forward to reading this book for a few weeks now.

What the hell?

Who do I call to say, "Give me page 25, please?!"

I want my money back. No, better yet, I want a new copy with an actual page 25!

I'm not outside anymore. I'm not relaxed anymore. Now I'm just mad. Annoyed. Wondering what the heck I'm supposed to read now. I refuse to write at the moment. I'M ON VACATION! I'm even violating my no computer while on vacation rule just to write this post. Argh.

I'm going to watch a movie.

There's a new Who Said It contest running.

  1. I've had that issue before with books, if you call Customer Service (if you bought it online) or take it back to the store that you purchased it from they will exchange it for a new copy. :]

    1. But I'm on vacation! WAAAAAAHHHH! Seriously, this sucks. Would you happen to have a copy that you could send me page 25? LOL.

    2. LOL. Just think of it as doing some sightseeing amongst the book shelves.

My copy of Divergent is already loaned out or, for your awesomeness (reading Wilde's Army right now) I probably would. :]

    3. Google to the rescue! I popped over to Veronica Roth's site...where the first HUNDRED pages of Divergent are posted. Here you go: http://browseinside.harperteen.com/index.aspx?isbn13=9780062024022

      Happy reading! :]

    4. You know, if my kids weren't in bed, I would probably go to the store and exchange my copy. Oh well. At least you're enjoying Wilde's Army (or I hope you are...lol, think I assume too much?)

Could you glance through the book and see if there are any others. I used to spend time in a press room and I doubt that's the only one.

    1. I just flipped through and don't see anything else. Thank God.

  3. So sorry! How terrible - but I guess I'd prefer that to happen on page 25 rather than on the last page.

    1. You are certainly an optimist! But I agree with you.

  4. What the blood hell? Harper Collins is a big six. How can we bitch about self-published authors who fail in the editing realm when the supposed creme de la creme can't even get it right? Release the hounds, I say!

  5. Aww, Krystal! D: That sucks. Well I'd storm into your local BN there and demand a new book! Do you have your eReader???

  6. You might want to check for page 49. I bought that book a week ago and I was missing that exact same page. It was also missing page 49 and several other pages. I took it back and the store I bought it from exchanged it. I just made sure that it wasn't blacked out again. Darn printing error! Hope you can read it! It's really great! :)

  7. Lack of quality in products and services has driven the world into a recession. It's going to take a commitment to bring that missing and seldom discussed critical ingredient back - until we do we are just going to be pissed.
Glad you got a vacation. Sorry about page 25.

  8. I had to check my copy, and it is OK, whew! I'm sure you can exchange it, but what a hassle!

  9. Had it happen. I have a Stephen King novel with an entire chapter missing. Yep, it sucks.

  10. This actually happens a lot. I work at Barnes and Noble and I have had a couple of customers who come in to exchange books. They are never happy campers.

Oh my! I bought mine on my Kindle so I didn't have that problem. Soooo sorry, that totally sucks. Great book though . . . read both books in 2 days and now I'm mad I have to wait for the 3rd. That's the downside of a series! Hope your movie was good!

  12. Well, that's one advantage to using a Kindle. Score one for the e-readers. LOL I just have to put up with formatting snafus, like messed up margins. Sorry your reading plans went awry. That's a bummer.

What is that? I've never seen anything like it. Sorry that happened to you.

That really sucks! Sorry that happened to you Krystal. On your vacation, no less! Damn the printers and their quality control. I think that book is sitting in my TBR. I should probably check it.
